Volunteer with Help Bristol’s Homeless

Help Bristol’s Homeless (CIC) is run and operated by volunteers and we recognise and value the huge contribution they make.

When you volunteer with Help Bristol’s Homeless, you will be making a significant contribution to combating homelessness and also have the opportunity to socialise with like minded people and other volunteers.

Ways you can get involved

Outreach

Our outreach service provides emergency care for those that are homeless. We do this in the form of care packages that include food, sleeping bags, clothing, and other essential items.

We currently go out on outreach once a week and cover the city center and the surrounding areas.

Necessary skills

  • Excellent communication.
  • Positive and upbeat demeanor.
  • Personal resilience.
  • The ability to work closely with other volunteers.
  • The physical ability to work on the streets.
  • Ability to work with people who may have offending behaviour, substance use
    and/or mental health, with sensitivity and respect.
  • Willingness to attend training to develop you in your volunteer role.

Administration

With every organisation there is a lot that goes on behind the scenes that often goes unnoticed. A good administration team is vital to the success of any organisation and Help Bristol’s Homeless is no different.

Necessary skills

  • Good Communication – Phone, email and one to one.
  • Computing – office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing.
  • Organisation – planning, scheduling.
  • Implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Good time management – Working to deadlines.

Media

Creating good quality content that engages our followers on social media and our website is crucial to getting our message out there. Our media team plays a vital role in encouraging the community and new supporters to get involved with our project.

Necessary skills

  • Good Communication – Phone, email and one to one.
  • Computing – office software programs, including spreadsheets, databases, word processing.
  • Organisation – planning, scheduling.
  • Implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Experience with Social media – Facebook, Twitter.
  • Good time management – Working to deadlines.

Charity Shop

Through donations from our local community our charity shop located in Nailsea, provides a vital source of income that helps us maintain our organisation.

Necessary skills

  • Good Communication – Phone and one to one.
  • Computing – office software programs including till system.
  • Accounting – Cashing up and banking monies.
  • Organisation – planning, scheduling.
  • Implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Good time management – Opening and closing shop.

Container Project

Unlike many other homeless charities, our ethos is that housing must come first. Our container project is the heart of Help Bristol’s Homeless.

Necessary skills

  • Building – Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Flooring, painting and decorating.
  • CSCS Certification (Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
  • Excellent health and safety
  • Organisation – planning
  • Good time management – Working to deadlines

GET INVOLVED

360 winx Bus Project

First Bus has donated a double decker that we are planning to convert into rough sleepers overnight accommodation. Once complete this will provide an additional 12 beds.

Necessary skills

  • Building – Carpentry, Plumbing, Electrical, Flooring, painting and decorating.

  • Good time management – Working to deadlines
